Eric PETIT - Directeur du CENTRE INTERNATIONAL DE VALBONNE
BP 97
06902 Sophia Antipolis Cedex (France)
Bonjour, Mr Petit,
https://www.ecologie.gouv.fr/sites/default/files/DMA%20-%20Le%20chien%20guide%20d%27aveugle%20ou%20le%20chien%20d%27assistance.pdf

<p>[2021-12-22 Wed 14:44]</p>
<dl>
<dt>ref</dt>
<dd>
</dd>
</dl>
<ul>
</ul>
<blockquote>
</blockquote>
<ol>
</ol>
<ul>
</ul>

* BRUT CSS
I've took some time to build my own specialized CSS Framework.
The end goal of this framework is to help in the building of Nerd-targeted web applications.
What I mean by that, is that in most of my professional experience, I had to
build internal administration tools that I needed to share with other developers
and managers.
I am also recently fond some aspect of "Brutalism".
The idea I like the most is about, going directly to the useful and tear appart
anything else.
And having something pleasing to the eye is quite often in direct contradiction
with having a professional tool.
A good hammer does not have to be beautiful, it must just be a hammer.
In fact, if I was to give you a hammer in gold with incrusted diamonds and nice
decorations it would probably be a shitty hammer for the sake of planting nails.
So here it is.
- I want a framework with insane density of information. Which is in direct
opposition with best modern design practices when it come to website. Most new
websites are just... Empty, full of nothingness for you to breathe...
Fuck that.
- A minimalistic framework. The framework should be mostly finished, I will
probably not add many new features along the time. Having a constrained,
limited number of components is the feature.
- It should immediately be obvious, the application is for professional use, and
should intimidate just by its look and feel any non core-developer to use it.

* Reference
https://github.com/advthreat/iroh/issues/5411
We propose to provide two new endpoints to simplify and standardize this
integration system.
- ~POST /iroh/oauth/custom/code~ that could only called using a user's JWT with
the ~oauth:write~ scope. Given a ~client-id~ it will grant that client
(no need to pass via the CSRF token step) and returns a code
(directly and not a URL the client would need to parse)
- ~POST /iroh/oauth/custom/tokens~ that could only be called using a user's JWT
with the ~oauth:write~ scope.
This route also need a ~client_id~, ~client_secret~.
This will grant the client on behalf of the user and returns a classical ~/token~
response.

#+title: Either in Clojure
#+author: Yann Esposito
#+date: [2022-08-15]
- tags ::
- source ::
* Either Either or Exceptions?
When you start working with Clojure (or many other programming language) a
classic notion of error is, for your function, to return nothing is an error
occurred.
But quite often you want to convey more detail about the error so you could act
differently depending on it.
Or provide a more detailed error message to your end user, etc…
The recommended method to handle errors in Clojure (and a lot of other
programming languages) is to throw exceptions.
While this is perfectly pragmatic and reasonable, exceptions have a few
undesirable properties.
First, they are impure, which somehow break the principles behind functional
programming.
So if you are using Clojure chance are you prefer to keep it as pure as possible.
Second, exceptions are generally expensive, and should probably be avoided if
possible.
(*TODO*: write a short benchmark).
Third, Exceptions lack of composability properties and are often hidden.
It is generally impossible to know if a function could or could not throw an
exception.
And also if you should or should not do something about it.
Also, while possible it is not very natural to accumulate errors generated by a
sequence of actions.
The same could be said if you want to transform the error depending on the code
context.
Here are two example of code:
#+begin_src clojure
;; Example of accumulating values and errors
(for [x things]
(try (do-some-action %)
(catch Exception e
(do-something-with-exception e))))
;; Example of tranforming value
(try (do-some-action x)
(catch Exception e
(transform e)))
#+end_src
We see this is easy, but, I don't know, it looks a bit cumbersome to me.
So what is the other possibility?
In the Statically Typed Pure Function Programming world people often use ~Either~.
What is this?
Mainly this is a type that represent the notion of: "We have either something or
an error."
Either contains two component, by convention a left and a right. And also by
convention the right contain the value while the left contain the error.
Why? Because right also means correct in English.
So ~Either~ is a sum type.
Sum types is probably THE feature I miss the most in many programming languages.
Anyway, it is not difficult to simulate a sum type.
Here are a few possible representations:
Using a tag field that indicate if the content is a right or a left:
#+begin_src clojure
{:type (enum :left :right)
:content value-or-error}
;; example for (Right 42)
{:type :right
:content 42}
;; exaple for (Left "error")
{:type :left
:content "error"}
#+end_src
Another way to prevent some potential issue with conflicting different schemas
(imagine if you had to save the previous representation within Elasticsearch for
example, the mapping would probably be difficult to write).
#+begin_src clojure
{:type (enum :left :right)
(optional-key :left) Error
(optional-key :right) Value}
;; example for (Right 42)
{:type :right
:right 42}
;; exaple for (Left "error")
{:type :left
:left "error"}
#+end_src
And the last one not as generic, but good enough for our use case, both terser,
easier to read and manipulate:
#+begin_src clojure
{(optional-key val): Value
(optional-key err): Error}
;; example for (Right 42)
{:val 42}
;; example for (Left "error")
{:err "error"}
#+end_src
So we'll choose this one.

* CSS limitations
After a lot of trial, search, etc… I came to the conclusion it is not possible
to solve this layout problem with CSS only without modifying the attached HTML.
Given a container div, and multiple children.
The first few children could have a dynamic height.
I want the last one to take the remaining space and fill it.
So the HTML is restricted to be:
#+begin_src html
<div class="container">
<div>1</div>
<div>2</div>
<div class="filler">Should take the rest of the space</div>
</div>
#+end_src
So we set the height of ~container~ to be something also dynamic like ~100vh~ for example.
I expected this to be solvable via ~flex~ or ~grid~. But apparently, no, this is not
solvable this way...
So here goes another limitation of HTML.
* Deeper discussion
There are too many things to care about when building web technologies.
And also, the change must be done via consensus between different browser builders.
As such we currently only have terrible choices.
If you compare this with the so great concepts used by TeX, this is such a
shame.
But imagine, you have to deal with forms, drawing, but also, accessibility
features.
Website with textual content, as well as with animated content, etc…
So what we end up with is this terrible set of technologies for which you can
only do a few things but are never generalized enough to be great in every dimensions.

Petit journal depuis longtemps.

</ul>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
</ul>
<ul>
</ul>

Exercise. Don't drink. Eat well. Skip news/media that adds nothing. Read
vociferously. Get plenty of rest time. Appreciate the downtime because it's not
downtime it's valuable reflection time. Doing several slow things at the same
time works.
Examples: Walk to the subway, bus.
Don't be in a hurry. When getting to the stop, take 3 or 4 minutes to chill and
appreciate the sky, plants, whatever you have.
Wake up earlier so as not to be in a hurry. Eat satiably. Cook if you like. Cook
a little more and take a packed lunch. Cook for loved ones. Take the stairs not
the escalator. Read a book on the subway about something completely different
than your 'jobs'. Listen to a quality podcast while doing morning stretching or
abs.
Wish others a nice day. Being positive breeds positivity. Plan ahead minimising
catch-up. Engage in office banter, do more. Always be the owner. Synergies
happen in the funniest of places. Never feel guilty for reading around or into a
subject more than's needed. Don't feel guilty for not knowing something. Give
time generously. Take lots of breaks. Laugh vigorously when realising something
was so simple. Take another break. Do not work a job that measures you on time.
Drink plenty of water. Never forget what's most important for you.

** Lunch Partners

so we wrote a program that would match you with a random person to have a call

We took TZ into consideration for this
** Senior Streaming
Another good practice?
Specially senior ppl in the team invited others in the channel to "pair

in fact ..
it was more like: "hey, I need to fix X who want to join in?"
Related?
I read Matthieu saying "I'll update the ModuleType" thousands of time yet I
don't know how to do it.
This is the kind of thing that he might do in a blink of an eye and would be
very nice for the team to see/learn about it
** Help it was also common to have ppl asking for help ..
which I don't see here much.
For example, all new hires asked "Hey, someone can hop in a call to help me
understand how to fire up the test suite?"

Mr, Mme,
https://lnks.esy.fun/y/ffd771ea
https://www.ecologie.gouv.fr/laccessibilite-des-etablissements-recevant-du-public-erp
salutations,
Yann Esposito.

So we could probably add a parameter to create links that would auto-select the
tenant during login and bypass the redirection to the Registration UI.
But I am not sure this would be desirable, because it would introduce potential
inconsistency.
The main issue is that we use many different URLs, for different component/products.
The state (the user-identity and the tenant) must be saved for every URL of
every component/product if we want to synchronize the tenancy everywhere.
For example think about this scenario:
1. login to SecureX as user1@company.com using org Company
2. click to login to CTR (say the user login into the same user/org in CTR)
3. open a new tab and open SecureX, then inside SecureX switch tenant to Company2
4. without clicking to back to CTR => the tenant is Company not Company2
Now it might also be more difficult to use different tenant between product.
I don't know if this is what we want or not.
The question is probably more, do we want to sync the tenant on all our product
all the time? aka, à la google.
Or do we want to be able to have different tenant on different URL?
If we want to sync the tenancy everywhere, this could be done, but this is not
free.
Mainly we want a solution similar to how Google handle your Google account.
Notice how, when you switch your Google account, you wait a few seconds on a
webpage?
This is Google opening a few iframes to pass the state between different URLs
(like google.com and youtube.com etc…)
Google have it easy, because they just care about the User Identity. And once
they know your user identity, they don't need to clear it, as it never changes.
So your Google account session is infinite.
In the Cisco case, the User Identity state is saved in a cookie at the SXSO URL.
But, unlike Google Cisco, need to ask confirmation of the User Identity to 3rd
party IdPs so we do not allow a login from a user that was fired from a company.
So SXSO sessions are a lot shorter (a few hours).
The Tenancy state is not saved into the Registration UI URL for now but it could
be.
But this must be dependent on the session lifetime of SXSO for the same security
reason.
But as we use 3rd party IdPs, and thus depends on IdP of our customers, it
means, that our User Identity session must be short enough to be somehow secure
and it means that if we were to sync the account state on all products we will
need to present a similar page to the Google account switching everytime the
session ends. So once a day, we would force our customer to see that page that
could take a few seconds to load because it is loading in the background many
different URLs.

***** Answer
Hi Prerna, you are totally right, as CTR do not implement the switch user this
PR will probably break CTR workflow.
I should probably have asked to split this feature in two steps:
1. Ability to create a link that will ensure the user will be presented the
Registration UI
2. Change the login behavior to match the one asked by Ben.
Note, that CTR might not need to implement the full user switching from within
CTR and simply use (1) to redirect user to the Registration UI, so the user will
be able to switch their account from there.
I think (1) would not break anything and will be retro-compatible.
Also I think both CTR and SecureX should provide a way to redirect the user to
the Registration UI.
Currently user with a single account never reach the Registration UI unless they
have a pending invite, which means for these users, creating a new Organization
is probably almost impossible.
That being said, I didn't want to change the behaviour before asking everyone in
this FT if this is desirable, as it appears to me that automatically redirecting
the users to the dashboard (or CTR) with the latest login account, goes a bit
against some discussion we had to present the Registration UI as often as possible.
So, sorry @wanderson, could you split your PR? Or maybe create a new PR with
just (1) implemented? As I think this is needed to fix this bug:
https://github.com/advthreat/GLaDOS/issues/3404
So at least for now, I don't think we need to go further, the PR will be put
on-hold until further discussion.

Discuss about improving login workflow, was refused because it will break CTR.
Idea occurred to me to split the test between integration one and the other.
We could gain the docker init time for them ;)
